GE Vernova Unit's BWRX-300 Reactor Wins US Construction Permit at Tennessee Valley Authority Site

02:31 PM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- GE Vernova's (GEV) Hitachi Nuclear Energy said Tuesday the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a construction permit to the Tennessee Valley Authority for a BWRX-300 small modular reactor at its Clinch River site in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. TVA applied for the permit in April 2025, and the project builds on the utility's existing early site permit for Clinch River, GE Vernova said. Meanwhile, Blue Energy filed the initial part of its construction permit application to the NRC in September for a BWRX-300 planned for a gas-plus-nuclear project in Texas, GE Vernova said. In Canada, Ontario Power Generation's license to operate application for its first unit at Darlington is under review by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, GE Vernova added.
