The Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, has proposed to member countries to accelerate the release of energy reserves, with diesel as the priority category. According to an official announcement issued by the IEA, Executive Director Fatih Birol has sent a formal letter to the governments of member countries regarding the tightening global diesel supply. Birol proposed that member countries expedite the release of remaining reserves, fulfill the commitments made in the coordinated actions of March 2026, and prioritize the release of diesel reserves. He also advocated for member countries to "assess whether it is necessary to further release diesel inventories" and, if appropriate, "clearly announce the scale and timing of the releases, as well as their role as supplementary adjustment measures." The announcement also revealed that the IEA Governing Board will hold a special meeting on October 15, with the agenda including recent information about repeated attacks on Saudi Arabia’s civil and energy infrastructure.
