How XRP Will Be Used Within the ISO 20022 Framework Revealed
Global banking runs on messaging. Crypto researcher published a detailed walkthrough explaining how that messaging standard connects directly to XRP.
Every transfer, every settlement, every cross-border payment moves because a structured instruction tells it to. That instruction follows a universal standard, and Ripple built its products around it.
The Standard Behind Every Bank Payment
ISO 20022 is the global messaging language used across payments, trade finance, securities, and foreign exchange. It does not move money. It describes the transaction. A separate layer handles the actual transfer of value. Keeping these two functions distinct is essential to understanding where XRP fits.
The core of the argument is straightforward. Ripple’s payment products are built on ISO 20022, using the pacs.008 message format as a foundation. A bank sends a standard ISO 20022 instruction. Ripple’s network reads it. XRP then settles the value between two currencies in seconds. The receiving bank pays out in local currency.
How Ripple Positioned Itself Within the Standard
Ripple joined the ISO 20022 standards body early, and its technology is aligned with that standard. That membership placed Ripple inside the room where global payment infrastructure is shaped, not outside looking in. Banks that already operate on ISO 20022 messaging can route settlements through Ripple’s network without abandoning their existing systems.
The practical benefit targets Nostro accounts. Banks currently pre-fund accounts in foreign currencies around the world to facilitate cross-border payments. XRP, acting as a bridge asset, reduces that requirement. Settlement happens in seconds rather than days, and liquidity does not need to sit idle in multiple currencies across multiple jurisdictions.
Standard Chartered Weighs In
Standard Chartered stated publicly that ISO 20022 “can bridge traditional and decentralized finance.” In that same context, XRP is one of the documented coin providers. That is a regulated financial institution acknowledging a direct connection between the ISO 20022 standard and XRP’s role within it.
This is the point being made. XRP’s presence in that picture is not incidental. It shows Ripple’s deliberate alignment with the standard that governs international banking communication.
The Regulatory Path
Ripple’s products are compliant. They sit within the existing regulated system, not parallel to it. ISO 20022 is the message. XRP moves the value. Together, through Ripple’s infrastructure, they represent a functional path for banks to settle cross-border transactions using a digital asset while remaining inside the frameworks regulators recognize.
