Pendle [PENDLE] generated $158M in volume on the 20th of October, marking the highest daily volume since last November.
Among the top volume drivers, Ethereum led with $121.8M, while Monad and Plasm followed with $20.8M and $3.7M, respectively. Pendle is a yield-hunting platform, and the record annual traction shows renewed appetite for yield despite rising U.S. Treasury bond yields.
For the unfamiliar, Pendle and broader DeFi platforms such as Aave are promising users rewards for their parked capital, directly competing with similar U.S. Treasury bills’ interest rates.
Ideally, the rising bond yields should attract more investors to T-bills. But that ain’t the case given the rising Pendle and Aave traction.
And the appetite for onchain yield has not evaporated or dropped because the DeFi yield premium compared to the 3-month U.S. Treasury yield is too small. For Ethena’s USDe, the premium was only 0.38% as of writing.
In mid-October, the premium was at 2.24%, meaning investors would earn an extra 2.24% in rewards compared to U.S. T-bills.
So, what does the renewed appetite for on-chain yield mean for the PENDLE token?
Will PENDLE tokenholders benefit?
Currently, 80% of Pendle revenues are shared as rewards to sPENDLE holders. sPENDLE is the token users get after staking their real PENDLE and is redeemable 1:1. Simply put, the PENDLE stakers get the largest share of the generated revenue.
As such, such a spike and resulting rewards may encourage users to lock and stake even more PENDLE. In other words, higher revenue could attract more demand for PENDLE. But that’s one of the factors influencing demand.
The broader market sentiment also plays a role, and PENDLE’s price action in 2026 supported this thesis. During the April-May recovery period, PENDLE doubled from nearly $1 to about $2 as revenue increased by 5x from $200K to over $1M.
But during the August-September period, PENDLE surged 122% from $1.26 to $2.8. But volume and revenue increased only slightly and slumped afterward. Much of the rally was boosted by Bitcoin’s jump to $87K.
Subsequently, the 22% pullback seen since late September coincided with dropping volume, revenue, and broader weak sentiment.
What’s next as PENDLE bounces 15%?
So, the massive volume and revenue on Tuesday extended PENDLE’s recovery by 15% to $2.2. Bitcoin also recovered slightly over the same period. So, if the traction and broader sentiment improve, PENDLE could turn $2.2 into support and eye $2.8 again.
However, failure to reclaim the May peak as support ($2.2) could embolden sellers to drag PENDLE lower to $2.0 or $1.6.
Final Summary
- Pendle saw $158M in daily volume on October 20th, the highest since last November.
- The renewed demand for on-chain yield boosted PENDLE recovery by 15%.
