Stocks rose Monday as technology names got a boost after Anthropic's initial public offering filing, providing a much-needed lift in the artificial-intelligence trade.
Brazilian stocks tumbled following a shock victory for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the presidential election Sunday. Brewer Ambev slumped 14%, oil major Petróleo Brasileiro plunged 14%, and investment management company XP Inc. plummeted 48%.
SpaceX fell 0.4%. CEO Elon Musk said in a post on X that the rocket and AI company had secured $40 billion in debt financing to buy graphics processing units.
Musk added that so-called neoclouds, which sell AI computing, would suffer "guppy-level death and consolidation" because debt markets have stopped lending to them. Shares of CoreWeave added 1.8%, while fellow neocloud IREN was up 2.1%. Nebius was down 3.5%.
Tesla rose 5.2% to $391.62. Barclays upgraded the stock to Buy from Hold and the price target to $450 from $370.
Meta Platforms was down 1.9%. The social-media company said it was launching a $35 billion stock offering and it could sell $60 billion more next year.
Microsoft rose 1.5% following a report the tech giant planned to offer buyouts to about 60,000 workers. That represents about 27% of its full-time workforce.
Fair Isaac plunged 13%. The company announced Friday it would hold its mortgage credit-scoring pricing at $10, drawing criticism from analysts.
Verizon declined 3.5%. The wireless carrier beat Wall Street's estimates for third-quarter adjusted earnings and raised its fiscal 2026 guidance. But the company narrowly missed its revenue estimates for the quarter. Shares of rival AT&T fell 0.4%, while T-Mobile rose 0.3%.
Range Resources jumped 18% after natural gas producer EQT said it would acquire the company for about $12.83 billion. Under the all-stock deal, shareholders will receive 0.987 shares of EQT for each of their shares, valuing the stock at $54.91 -- a 21% premium to its latest close. Shares of EQT declined 1.4%.
Oil stocks were mixed as investors bet on a cool-down in tensions between the U.S. and Iran, which dragged down crude prices. Chevron slid 0.5%, ConocoPhillips rose 0.4%, and ExxonMobil advanced 0.7%.
