Media: Mediators push for a 5-day US-Iran reciprocal concession agreement to reopen the strait in exchange for lifting the maritime blockade. According to reports, as widespread concerns grow that the U.S. and Israel could soon launch a new round of strikes against Iran, senior representatives from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan held talks with Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday. This visit is the latest move in a flurry of regional diplomatic efforts. Gulf officials said Monday’s talks aimed to support the mediation efforts of Qatar and Pakistan and to push Iran to show enough flexibility to reach a diplomatic solution with the United States. Two diplomats said Qatari mediators have been working toward a deal whereby both sides would make a series of concessions within five days. As part of the proposed concessions, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz to allow commercial shipping, while the United States would lift the maritime blockade on Iranian ports. The main obstacle to an agreement is determining when each side should make its concessions. They added that negotiators have been urging Iran to make concessions related to its nuclear program at the outset of the deal’s implementation.
Canadian Prime Minister: US-Canada trade talks have sped up, but no agreement reached yet. Canadian Prime Minister Carney stated that US-Canada trade negotiations have recently accelerated somewhat, with progress mainly due to the U.S. side showing flexibility. He emphasized that Canada still will not accept the agreement terms proposed by the U.S. in August, and differences remain on steel, aluminum, automotive tariffs, and exemptions for medium and heavy-duty truck tariffs. The previous negotiations broke down on August 21, after which the United States imposed a 50% tariff on about $20 billion of Canadian goods, and Canada reciprocated with tariffs on an equal value of U.S. goods. White House economic adviser Hassett said both sides are very close to reaching a deal, and Trump also indicated an agreement may be reached soon. However, another U.S. official said the American side still believes Canada’s concessions are insufficient and the outlook for talks remains uncertain.

Apple admits a small number of iPhone Duo devices have inner screen issues, most devices not affected. Apple (AAPL.US) indicated it has noticed that a small number of iPhone Duo devices are experiencing inner screen failures, stating that affected devices typically develop issues in a short period but most devices are unaffected. Previous reports from multiple media outlets indicated that users heard cracking sounds when unfolding their devices, felt bumps or looseness near the hinge, followed by cracks on the inner screen, with some devices also developing white spots or abnormal bright lines. Repair platform iFixit believes the problem may stem from hinge component failures that put pressure on and crack the screen. Apple is currently investigating, with some engineers seeking to obtain faulty devices for analysis; some users have received replacements, but others are waiting due to out-of-stock situations or difficulty booking appointments in stores.

The Safe-Haven Logic of Gold Has Changed! Morgan Stanley: It May Not Work When Stocks Plunge, But Can Hedge Against a US Treasury Crisis
Morgan Stanley stated that the myth of gold being a hedge against the stock market has ended. Since 2020, gold has not only failed to protect during extreme stock sell-offs but has actually amplified losses. However, its buffering value has become increasingly evident during sharp sell-offs in US Treasury bonds, transforming from a tool for interest rate trades into a core weapon against fiscal and sovereign credit risks. Record central bank gold purchases and the highest single-quarter ETF net inflows in history are reshaping the structural demand and logic behind gold prices, with Morgan Stanley setting a price target of $5,000/ounce by 2027.
