03:46 PM EDT, 10/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were mixed late Tuesday afternoon with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) falling 1% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) rising 1.1%. Redbook US same-store sales last week rose 9.3% from a year earlier after a 9% increase in the previous week. Halloween merchandise sales are picking up, an early indicator that Christmas sales may be strong, Redbook said. In corporate news, General Motors (GM) plans to offer hybrid models of its three-row SUVs, a notable pivot in strategy after investing heavily in electric vehicles, Reuters reported. Separately, GM's board on Monday authorized the company to voluntarily withdraw the listing of its common stock from the New York Stock Exchange and transfer the listing to the Nasdaq Global Select Market, GM said Tuesday. GM shares rose 5.8%. JetBlue Airways (JBLU) is not in talks with its creditors, and the airline is not considering a debt restructuring, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing comments from CEO Joanna Geraghty. Media reports said that a group of creditors hired restructuring advisers triggered speculation about the airline's ability to manage its debt load, Reuters reported. JetBlue shares surged nearly 19%. United Parcel Service (UPS) shares gained 6% after the company raised its full-year outlook, saying the outlook for holiday demand is strong. Dollar General (DG) was sued by the US Federal Trade Commission and 20 states for allegedly engaging in "long-running deceptive pricing practices," the agency said. Dollar General shares fell 1.6%.
