On the 18th, the German government announced that it has reached an agreement with federal states on a package of relief measures, including the implementation of a new round of fuel tax reductions and the introduction of a fuel price cap to alleviate the pressure caused by persistently high fuel prices on residents and businesses. According to the plan, the German government will lower energy taxes, effectively reducing gasoline and diesel prices by about 0.17 euros per liter. These measures are scheduled to be implemented before October 1 and will last until the end of this year, with the current round of tax cuts totaling approximately 2.5 billion euros. This fuel tax reduction is similar to the temporary measures implemented from May to June this year, which were expected to reduce tax revenue by 1.6 billion euros this year.
