Why the buyback math leads to $2
Once those thresholds are crossed, the $ENA valuation increasingly depends on how much of Ethena’s economics can be directed toward token holders.
The approved framework allocates 95% of qualifying net revenue paid to the Ethena Foundation from covered businesses toward $ENA buybacks. Ethena does not retain the full yield generated by the assets supporting $USDe, making the distinction between gross and net revenue central to the calculation.
Blockworks Advisory’s analysis modeled the protocol’s share of gross revenue increasing with $USDe supply, beginning at about 5% around $7.5 billion and reaching 20% by $20 billion. The model used a 6% protocol yield as an illustrative assumption, not a guaranteed return.
At the much larger scale envisioned by Standard Chartered, those economics become substantial.
The bank estimates that if $USDe reaches $40 billion, $ENA purchases could amount to roughly 23% of the token’s current market value annually if its price remained unchanged.
Standard Chartered does not expect such a percentage to persist. It argues that investors would capitalize the expected stream of purchases into $ENA’s valuation, pushing the token higher and reducing annual buybacks as a percentage of its market capitalization.
The bank points to Uniswap as an analog, saying UNI’s annualized buyback percentage has settled around 3% to 4% as the token appreciated after activating its fee switch. Applying a comparable equilibrium to Ethena underpins Standard Chartered’s $2 target.
But the mechanism introduces its own constraint.
Capturing a larger share of Ethena’s revenue for the protocol can reduce what remains available to sUSDe holders. That creates a balancing act: Ethena needs enough margin to support $ENA purchases while maintaining sufficiently competitive yields to keep attracting the deposits required for $USDe to grow.
The assumptions become more demanding as supply rises. The 6% return used in the framework has not been guaranteed across market cycles, while the higher revenue-capture tiers have yet to be tested at the scale Standard Chartered expects.
That leaves investors with several nearer-term checkpoints before the $2 target becomes relevant. $USDe must first cross the $7.5 billion fee-switch threshold and reclaim its previous peak.
Beyond that, Ethena will have to show that its newer yield strategies can absorb tens of billions of dollars without materially compressing returns. How quickly those thresholds are crossed will determine whether Standard Chartered’s projected buyback engine begins to resemble the one embedded in its valuation model.

$GRVT Standard Chartered initiated coverage of Ethena's $ENA token on Wednesday with a forecast that it reaches $2.00 by the end of 2028, roughly seven times the level the bank used as its starting point.
The note gives $ENA its first published price target from a global bank, and it rests on one mechanism. In September, Ethena token holders approved a fee switch that routes 95% of net protocol revenue into open-market $ENA purchases. Standard Chartered's case is that as $USDe grows, those purchases get large enough relative to $ENA's market value that the token has to reprice upward for the program to stay affordable.
Global Head of Digital Assets Research Geoffrey Kendrick forecasts $ENA at $0.42 at end-2026, $1.10 at end-2027 and $2.00 at end-2028 in the note, titled "Ethena – A scalable yield-bearing stablecoin." The same report carries Ether at $18,000 and Bitcoin at $300,000 by end-2028, which would leave $ENA outpacing both. The forecast assumes $USDe outstanding grows to $40 billion from $4.9 billion today, against a total stablecoin market the bank sees reaching $2 trillion.
$ENA traded up 22% over seven days and 54% over 30 days, and down 3.3% over 24 hours, according to CoinGecko. Its market value is about $2.5 billion, ranking 43rd.
The 23% Problem
Kendrick's argument runs through a ratio. If $USDe reaches $40 billion and $ENA's price stays where it is, annual buybacks would equal roughly 23% of the token's circulating market value. The bank calls that far too high to be sustained, and concludes the price rises until the buyback share settles at a defensible level.
The comparison is Uniswap, where the fee switch activated in December 2025. Annualized buybacks there have stabilized at 3% to 4% of market value, a level reached partly because $UNI roughly tripled over the same period.
Standard Chartered set a $100 price target on $UNI when it initiated coverage in June.
The bank said this month that the $UNI target may now be too low. Applying Uniswap's equilibrium to Ethena is what produces the 7x.
Buyback Arms at $7.5 Billion
The fee switch passed a Snapshot vote that ran from Aug. 27 to Sept. 2, drawing 17.8 million $ENA in favor, none against, across 88 votes against a 5 million quorum. The Ethena Foundation confirmed the result on the governance forum on Sept. 8.
The approved schedule ties the revenue take rate to $USDe circulating supply: 5% at $7.5 billion, 10% at $10 billion, 15% at $15 billion and 20% at $20 billion. Nothing is bought below the first threshold. $USDe's supply is $4.90 billion, according to DefiLlama, which leaves the program about 53% of growth away from its first purchase.
Standard Chartered's illustrative table extends the schedule to a 25% take rate at $25 billion of $USDe supply and sources it to Ethena. The proposal on the governance forum publishes tiers through $20 billion.
The proposal names the three revenue lines covered by the switch as $USDe savings, Ethena Whitelabel stablecoins and "Ethena [X]," which the Foundation said was launching the following week. Ethena Pay, a savings and payments app built on $USDe, launched on Avalanche on Sept. 1.
Ethena has generated $20.1 million in fees over the past 30 days and $1.05 billion since inception, according to DefiLlama.

$GRVT TL;DR:
Sentora submitted an ARFC request to operate independent lending markets on Aave V4, sharing 50% of protocol revenue with the Aave DAO at zero operational cost to the community treasury.
The initial Ethereum deployment establishes a dedicated Hub with designated Spokes, setting a deposit cap of 100 million RLUSD and a borrow cap of 90 million RLUSD.
Initial borrowable assets are restricted to RLUSD, PYUSD, and OUSD, formally excluding USDC and USDT under a baseline 20% reserve factor framework.
Sentora targets Aave V4 through a formal governance proposal seeking to deploy and manage independently curated lending markets on the Ethereum network, transferring 50% of protocol revenue to the Aave DAO.
The initiative is posted on the official governance forum as an Aave Request for Final Comments (ARFC). If community feedback concludes favorably, the workflow will advance to a binding Snapshot vote, serving as the prerequisite step before formulating an Aave Improvement Proposal (AIP) for final on-chain execution.
Sentora was formed through the corporate merger of IntoTheBlock and Trident Digital. According to the proposal text, the initiative aims to consolidate institutional liquidity strategies that currently operate fragmented across multiple decentralized venues.
Under this framework, Sentora would assume end-to-end control over collateral selection, borrow caps, interest rate curves, liquidations, and price oracle integrations. Aave’s core governance retains ownership of the underlying smart contracts and final authority over structural upgrades.
The DAO’s regular risk service providers will carry no binding mandate or contractual obligation to monitor these markets or triage operational incidents. Unlike the core V4 deployments activated on Ethereum in March, this Hub will operate as a segregated environment with no cross-credit facilities connected to other Aave liquidity pools.
Risk architecture and operational Hub parameters
Modifications intended to reduce system risk—such as tightening collateral parameters or preemptively freezing markets—can execute immediately. In contrast, any supply cap increases or modifications to interest rate models will require an enforced 48-hour on-chain timelock.
This timelock mechanism does not restrict the scale of parameter increases, nor does it enforce cooldown windows between back-to-back updates. In the event of an operational dispute, the DAO cannot cancel individual queued transactions; its remediation path requires passing an AIP to revoke Sentora’s administrative manager roles.
Onboarding new collateral assets will require a mandatory two-week discussion window on the governance forum. Any technical objection raised by recognized Aave service providers will immediately halt the process, escalating the decision to a binding Snapshot vote. However, external risk auditors will receive no dedicated compensation for these reviews, meaning the absence of public objections does not imply an exhaustive technical audit.
The initial rollout completely excludes the highest-volume stablecoins, USDT and USDC. Lending and borrowing will be restricted to RLUSD, PYUSD, and OUSD, launching initially with RLUSD Yield, OUSD Yield, and a Bluechip Spoke, with a planned follow-on integration for PYUSD Yield.
The RLUSD Yield module will feature a supply cap set at 100 million tokens and a maximum borrowing capacity of 90 million. Initial collateral assets slated for this market segment include USDe and Huma PST, with subsequent expansions targeting PRIME and mWIN.
Borrowable stablecoins will implement a baseline 20% reserve factor on accrued borrow interest, a floor that Sentora may raise but cannot lower. The 50% share of these protocol proceeds will be routed directly to the Aave DAO treasury and will not represent a direct distribution to AAVE token holders or stakers. Final confirmation of the price oracle architecture for OUSD remains the primary technical milestone pending before initiating the Snapshot vote.

Nasdaq-listed StablecoinX has completed a management reshuffle. The company disclosed that Christopher Jensen, former executive of Franklin Templeton's digital asset business, has been appointed CEO, succeeding Ted Chen. Chen will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board.
Holding Approximately 20% of the ENA Supply
StablecoinX's business is highly integrated with the Ethena ecosystem. The company disclosed that it currently holds approximately 3.03 billion ENA, representing about 20% of the token's total supply, making it one of the largest corporate holders of ENA.
Since ENA is Ethena's governance token, this holding not only affects the company's balance sheet but also signifies StablecoinX's significant influence in protocol governance.
Holdings: Approximately 3.03 billion ENA
Supply Share: Approximately 20%
Stock Code: USDE
New CEO from Traditional Asset Management Institution
Jensen previously led digital asset research and portfolio management at Franklin Templeton. Reports indicate that Franklin Templeton's blockchain fund participated in Ethena's seed round, meaning Jensen is familiar with the project.
Ted Chen led StablecoinX to its IPO in June of this year. Following this change, he did not leave the company but became Chairman of the Board, while Jensen will handle day-to-day operations.
USDe Circulating Market Value Approximately $4.4 Billion
Ethena's core product, USDe, is a synthetic US dollar stablecoin. According to DefiLlama data, its current circulating market value is approximately $4.4 billion, ranking fifth in the stablecoin market.
About a week before Jensen took office, Ethena launched its self-custodied app, Ethena Pay, allowing users to directly use USDe for payments, transfers, and savings. This move indicates that Ethena is attempting to expand the use cases of USDe from trading and yield strategies to everyday payments.
The report also mentions that ENA has fallen by about 20% year-to-date, but has rebounded by over 80% in the past month, with its latest price at approximately $0.16. For StablecoinX, which holds a large amount of ENA, token price volatility will continue to directly impact the company's financial performance.$BTC $ETH $IOST
