Cardano Expands Layer 2 Solutions with Focus on Scalability and DeFi
- Cardano bets on L2 solutions for high scalability
- Midgard and Hydra Drive Innovations on the Cardano Network
- Rollups and zkFold expand interoperability across the ecosystem
The Cardano blockchain has taken another step forward in its scalability-focused growth strategy by introducing a robust portfolio of Layer 2 (L2) solutions. During a technical session hosted by Input Output Global (IOG) in June 2025, several L2 projects were discussed that make up the next phase of the network’s development, going beyond the framework known as Hydra.

The event brought together developers from the Intersect Working Group , representatives of Cardano-based projects and academic partners, with the aim of structuring a set of interoperable solutions. The proposal is clear: to improve speed, privacy and efficiency in DeFi applications and other sectors within the Cardano ecosystem.
Hydra, already established as one of the network's L2 tools, was presented with two distinct approaches. Hydra Head uses state channels for fast transactions between fixed groups. Hydra Tail adopts a rollup model aimed at large-scale transactions, seeking greater processing capacity.
Among the highlights, Midgard was introduced as a native optimistic rollup, developed by Anastasia Labs. The proposal combines deterministic fraud proofs with low dependence on centralized governance, following the models of Ethereum's Optimism and Fuel. Its implementation on the mainnet is expected to occur later this year.
Projects focused on zero-knowledge proofs were also presented, such as zkFold and Eryx. zkFold compresses hundreds of transactions into a single submission, improving efficiency. Eryx, in turn, proposes a ZK bridge for communication between blockchains with reinforced cryptographic security.
Sundae Labs has brought Gummiworm, a Hydra-inspired rollup that separates execution from asset custody, enabling greater flexibility for DeFi applications.
The experts present reinforced that Cardano’s strategy involves multiple L2 solutions that work in an integrated manner, based on common standards. One of the main goals is to avoid the fragmentation faced by other networks, such as Ethereum.
Initiatives such as liquidity bonds, developer incentives, and native integration between protocols have been suggested to reduce barriers to use and improve the user experience in L2 solutions.

AI Capital Expenditure Faces a Dilemma: Accelerating Puts Pressure on Cash Flow, Slowing Down Undermines the Growth Narrative
Nomura Securities believes that the AI investment narrative is mired in an internal contradiction: if hyperscale cloud providers accelerate capital expenditures, their free cash flow will continue to be drained, raising doubts about the sustainability of financing; if they slow down, it would indicate a loss of confidence in AI demand and profitability expectations. Both paths lead to sell-offs. The crowded long positions accumulated during the AI agent boom in September have triggered large-scale stop-losses under negative catalysts, spreading to US Treasury bonds, exchange rates, and commodity markets, resulting in systemic deleveraging.

Amazon (AMZN.US) CEO: AWS cloud computing capacity is fully booked until 2027, and a large amount of capacity has already been committed by customers for 2028
On Friday, Jassy stated that with the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, Amazon AWS cloud computing capacity is virtually sold out through 2027, and a significant portion of 2028 capacity has also been pre-booked by customers.

AI trading collapse: Will Anthropic postpone its "Super IPO"? The "scheduled listing date" in mid-November is approaching.
The time window is extremely tight—according to SEC regulations, the S-1 filing must be submitted by next week at the latest, and prediction markets estimate the probability of a listing within the year at around 80%. The sell-off in the AI sector has cast a shadow over the listing prospects, and the previous plan to go public in September has already fallen through. Several market participants say that Anthropic may face pressure to delay its listing, but some analysts point out that the company's urgent need for capital may drive it to stick to the original plan.
