Understanding the Federal Reserve Dot Plot

The Federal Reserve Dot Plot serves as a valuable resource for investors seeking insight into potential shifts in interest rates and broader economic trends. This chart offers a clear depiction of how members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) view the economic outlook and their policy intentions for the years ahead.

The FOMC is composed of 19 individuals: seven members from the Board of Governors and twelve presidents from the regional Federal Reserve Banks. While only 12 of these participants have voting rights during any given policy meeting, all 19 contribute their economic forecasts to the dot plot, ensuring a comprehensive representation of perspectives—including those of non-voting members.
