Intel decides to use ASML's next-generation lithography machines to produce some Panther Lake laptop chips

Golden Ten Data reported on July 15 that lithography machine manufacturer ASML (ASML.O) stated on Tuesday local time that Intel (INTC.O) has decided to use ASML's advanced equipment to produce some of its flagship Panther Lake laptop chips. This move will help Intel accumulate application experience with the equipment more efficiently. ASML said Intel began trials in 2024 and has started using ASML's next-generation high-numerical-aperture extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines. This lithography machine can transfer circuit patterns onto wafers to assist in producing parts of its Panther Lake processors. The high-numerical-aperture lithography equipment costs about $400 million—twice that of standard EUV lithography machines. In addition, applying this equipment to production processes is also highly technically challenging. Intel is using the high-numerical-aperture equipment to test specific layers of the chip, which will help Intel and ASML collect data and optimize the equipment.
