According to Odaily, Google revealed in a quarterly filing that as of the end of June, its future contractual spending commitments had reached $811 billion, an increase of nearly $500 billion compared to three months earlier. These amounts are disclosed separately from Google’s capital expenditure budget and represent purchase commitments the company has made based on supplier agreements and incomplete purchase orders. About $200.7 billion of these are short-term purchases. These commitments cover various areas, including chips, data centers, electricity, inventory, and content licensing.

This substantial increase highlights how rapidly Google is securing resources as it expands the infrastructure supporting its artificial intelligence business. This disclosure further demonstrates the astonishing scale of artificial intelligence infrastructure development. Google’s parent company Alphabet said on Wednesday that it expects to invest about $195 billion to $205 billion in capital expenditure alone this year, to compete with Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon in scaling up artificial intelligence computing capacity.
