$1.4 trillion
That's how big the market for data center AI accelerators-microchips designed to process tasks like machine learning-will be by 2030, according to Advanced Micro Devices CEO Lisa Su.
During yesterday's earnings call, she said the data-center market is expanding "far more rapidly than we projected just six months ago," boosting her company's growth prospects. The server CPU market should also grow more than 50% annually to reach $220 billion in 2030, she said.
That growing demand was clear to see in AMD's results yesterday: Its data-center revenue doubled in the second quarter, and the segment now accounts for 58% of its top line.
Still, AMD's shares are down around 8% premarket after SpaceX chief Elon Musk said his company would no longer buy AMD's chips and exclusively buy from archrival Nvidia, headed by Su's distant cousin, Jensen Huang.
