US stock futures rise slightly, oil prices decline while US Treasury yields hover at high levels.

  1. US stock index futures edged higher in early trading on Tuesday, oil prices moderately retreated, and US Treasury yields paused after reaching about a 20-year high.
  2. S&P 500 and Dow futures both rose 0.2% before the open, while Nasdaq futures gained 0.4%.
  3. Oil prices remain elevated as mediators continue pushing for an agreement between the US and Iran to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz; US President Trump over the weekend rejected Tehran's proposal to reopen the waterway.
  4. US crude oil fell $1.43 per barrel, down about 1.5%, to $91.17, more than 12% lower than several weeks ago, but still far above the $67 level before the US and Israel struck Iran at the end of February.
  5. Brent crude oil dropped $1.31 to $96.52 per barrel, also still well above the roughly $72 level before the war with Iran.
  6. CarMax shares rose nearly 6% in premarket trading as the used car chain's second-quarter revenue surged and profits easily beat Wall Street expectations.
  7. Wearable device manufacturer Oura said on Tuesday that, despite strong demand, it has decided to delay its IPO due to uncertainty in the market for initial public offerings.
  8. This week, several government economic data releases are scheduled, including job vacancies, consumer spending, inflation, and the September jobs report. The consumer confidence survey results for September will be released later on Tuesday.
  9. The stock market has recently been pressured by rising US Treasury yields. The 10-year yield was at about 5.21% in early trading Tuesday, near the highest level since 2007, and touched 5.27% on Monday.
  10. Central banks in multiple countries continue to raise interest rates to curb inflation. The Reserve Bank of Australia raised its benchmark rate for the fourth time this year to the highest in 15 years on Tuesday; earlier this month the Federal Reserve hiked rates for the first time in three years, and the Bank of Japan pushed its key interest rate to a 31-year high.
