While the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index has fallen for five consecutive days with a cumulative drawdown of over 8%, Apple hit a historic intraday high of $348.15 on October 13, with its market capitalization surpassing $5 trillion again; it closed at $341.27, with a market value of approximately $4.98 trillion.

According to Zhihu Finance APP, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index has declined for five consecutive days and seen a cumulative pullback of nearly 10%, American consumer electronics giant Apple (AAPL.US) reached a record high of $348.15 during US trading on October 13, with its market capitalization once again surpassing $5 trillion, closing at $341.27 with a market cap of approximately $4.98 trillion. According to the strategist team at Wall Street financial giant Bernstein, the expensive high-end foldable display iPhone provides extremely strong upgrade momentum and a premium product mix, while AI-powered smart home devices significantly enhance Apple's interaction interface and service touchpoints within its consumer electronics ecosystem. Together, they broaden the sources of growth. Bernstein maintains an "Outperform the Market" bullish rating for Apple, with a target price of $370, implying about 10% further upside potential.

The strong resilience of Apple's share price contrasted sharply with the trend of the "AI Computing Power Beta Indicator"—the iShares Semiconductor ETF. This further illustrates that Apple's latest ambitious push into AI smart home devices has precisely targeted the area where the market is most willing to pay a premium: at a time when the AI infrastructure sector is being re-evaluated due to capital expenditures, financing arrangements, and final returns, Apple is showcasing to investors a path for AI technology commercialization that relies on robust cash flow, existing devices, user data, and the most powerful ecosystem distribution capabilities. Additionally, the upcoming launch of its high-end foldable iPhone, starting at $1,999, is expected to act as a positive catalyst for demand.

Bernstein's recently released bullish research report on Apple highlights that the warning signals of slight supply chain order reductions are credible, but monthly order cuts relative to the original plan should not be directly equated to year-over-year drops in total device sales. The staggering release of base models, rising memory chip prices, and industry-wide demand weakness create rare quarterly pressures, but the expanding share of high-end models, Apple's strong iOS ecosystem stickiness, and the newly announced AI smart home blueprint all support long-term profitability. The firm maintains an "Outperform the Market" rating on Apple with a high target price of $370.

On Tuesday, October 13, Eastern Time, Apple released its first smart home display HomeView, and updated Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini. Apple also launched the Apple Home Collection, a series of smart home accessories, and collaborated with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric to develop related hardware covering indoor and outdoor cameras, floodlight cameras, video doorbells, thermostats, and smart locks. On Tuesday, Apple fully demonstrated its ambitions to further compete in the AI smart home market through the integration of hardware, Siri AI, and its service ecosystem.

HomeView aims to be the interface for daily home task interaction and control. Released on October 13, the 7-inch smart display equipped with an A18 chip is priced at $299 and will be available from November 13. Siri AI connects natural language, personal context on paired devices, and home control; requests are processed locally and via Private Cloud Compute. The simultaneously announced Apple Home Collection, co-developed with LG and Schneider, covers cameras, doorbells, locks, thermostats, and sensors, arriving on the market starting in December. This suite extends the personal assistant from the phone to a permanent home interface, with potential commercial value from device synergy, increased service usage frequency, and improved user retention.

"Apple's Exclusive, Robust Ecosystem and Cash Flow": The Answer to AI Investing?

The "best version answer" originates from gaming terminology, referring to the most competitive choice in a given scenario; in the current global tech stock frenzy, the debated "AI investing best answer" highlights Apple's ability to showcase strong share price and valuation resilience—frequently setting new record highs, with market cap even surpassing $5 trillion—amidst global semiconductor sector pressures, driven by high-end consumer entry, ecosystem stickiness, and product innovation cycles. By contrast, the semiconductor sector, which has benefited most since the generative AI boom in 2023, continues in a downward correction, especially in memory chips, with the historic peaks of early 2023 now far away.

Bernstein's analysis indicates that supply chain order cuts should be understood in the context of staggered launches, procurement allocation, and inventory rhythm; their impact has been partly reflected in Bernstein's cautious sales forecasts and Apple's prior share price pullbacks. As memory chip price hikes impact the entire industry, Apple's pricing power and user retention may enable higher market consolidation. Meanwhile, as semiconductor and AI computing power themes see stock corrections, Apple continues to attract tech investors through its unparalleled ecosystem, substantial cash flow, and consistent share buybacks that keep setting new records. At the same time, the foldable iPhone expands the high-end product portfolio, while HomeView and Siri AI extend the ecosystem to home interaction interfaces, collectively increasing opportunities for hardware sales and service monetization.

Currently, the market is using "ecosystem and cash flow" to test the gold content of those super-growth stories in the AI bull market—ecosystem scale directly determines how AI reaches users (as seen in Meta's stock price surge following the major release of its Muse personal AI agent), forms monetization, while cash flow dictates whether a company can continually invest and share returns with shareholders.

Apple boasts a vast user base, mature hardware and service systems, and strong cash-generating capacity from its existing businesses. Bernstein's bullish stance largely rests on the belief that, even amid supply chain order reductions and rising industry costs, Apple's high-end market share, pricing power, and user retention can continue to support profitability. The market is even more optimistic about the potential for cutting-edge AI technologies to be integrated into an already profitable and powerful Apple ecosystem.

Following this logic, the foldable iPhone seeks higher consumer spending through product upgrades, while HomeView and Siri AI expand Apple’s user interface from the phone to the home. If device synergy leads to more frequent usage, stronger user retention, and greater service revenue, moderate initial investment in AI can quickly convert into sustainable cash returns. In other words, Apple doesn’t need to replicate the balance sheet expansions of hyperscale cloud giants like Google, Microsoft, or Amazon. Capital flows are shifting from “who invests most in GPUs and data centers” to “who owns the end users, distribution channels, and verifiable cash flow.”

Bernstein Reveals Behind the Scenes of Order Cut Alerts: How Do Order Reductions Translate to Sales Expectations?

Nikkei media's report of a 15%—20% reduction in component orders for October compared with the original plan caused Apple's pre-market price to drop about 3% and close down roughly 1% on Friday. Earlier in September, reports also mentioned signs of cautious shipment arrangements.

The Bernstein equity strategy team had already projected iPhone shipments of 70.5 million units for the December quarter, a 16% year-over-year decrease and about 13% lower than the market consensus of 80.9 million units, mainly due to their expectation that new base models would not ship until next spring. Applying a 15%—20% cut to the Pro series, which accounts for about two-thirds of the quarterly volume, would lower market consensus to around 70.4–73 million units—aligning closely with Bernstein’s forecasts. This suggests that recent order cut news might push consensus estimates towards Bernstein’s more cautious outlook, and Apple's prior share price correction may have already priced in this negative factor.

From a supply chain perspective, supplier orders are influenced by terminal demand, procurement shares, and inventory timing. Apple adopts multi-source procurement for displays, memory, cameras, and assembly services; the A20 Pro, memory, and C2 baseband are shared across Pro, Pro Max, and Duo models. A decline in orders from some suppliers could be offset by others or imply adequate pre-release inventory. Thus, Bernstein's strategists stress that order reductions across multiple suppliers cannot simply be added together, and shared component orders do not directly translate to sales changes of any one model.

The rise in memory prices is reshaping the industry's entire cost curve. According to research cited from IDC, smartphone shipments in 2026 are projected to decline 16.7% (27.2% in H2), with average selling prices rising 27.6%. Samsung may cut Q4 production by up to 30%, while some Chinese handset makers have reduced their annual targets from about 170 million to 110 million units, and OPPO and vivo may each fall below 90 million. Low-end models have little room to absorb increased component costs, and price hikes erode purchasing power, exposing them to both volume and profit pressures. Apple may thus continue to expand relative market share through pricey high-end AI smartphones, even as absolute unit sales decline.

From Pocket to Living Room: Can New Product Hype Translate Into Profit Growth?

It is understood that the iPhone Pro and Pro Max start at $1,199 and $1,299 respectively, up $100 or about 8%—9%; compared to industry flagship norms of 5%—33% increases, Apple's price hikes are relatively moderate. Bernstein believes that some budget-constrained users are more likely to defer upgrades or actively purchase older iPhones rather than switch to another major competing brand.

The foldable iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, with pre-orders on October 16 and official release on the 23rd. Counterpoint predicts Apple’s foldable shipments in 2026 could reach up to 6 million units, accounting for 25% of the category. Thus, the foundation of Apple's bullish thesis remains high-end market share, pricing power, and ecosystem profitability: the foldable boosts refresh motivation and premium product mix, AI home increases interaction entry points and service touchpoints, and together they broaden growth avenues.

Ultimately, valuation must be supported by profits and cash flow. The report projects adjusted EPS of $8.85 and $9.90 for fiscal years 2026 and 2027, corresponding to price-to-earnings ratios of around 38x and 34x; the $370 target price is based on a 33x expected FY2028 EPS, or 29.5x enterprise value/free cash flow. Near-term pressures focus on memory costs and the impact of launch rhythms on December quarter gross margin guidance; medium-term risks relate to generative AI competition, new device forms, the Chinese market, supply chain, and ecosystem monetization regulation. The report notes that Google's legal case—a major regulatory risk—has now eased significantly. Whether HomeView and the foldable iPhone Duo can significantly and sustainably increase revenue per user and leave more cash flow after new hardware costs will determine how much valuation expansion the new product cycle can support.
