Slovakia will approve Tesla's autonomous driving technology

Slovakia will approve Tesla's autonomous driving technology

Reuters, October 8 – Slovakia is expected to approve Tesla’s TSLA.O Full Self-Driving (FSD) system within a few days, according to a video posted Wednesday afternoon on LinkedIn by Transport Minister Jozef Ráž. This move will make Slovakia the ninth EU country to approve this driver-assistance technology. "Data shows these vehicles reduce accident rates, and that is our goal," he stated. Ráž said the ministry would send a letter of recognition to the Netherlands, where the Dutch regulator RDW approved the system earlier this year and acts as the main supervisory body for Tesla’s European approval process. "Once this letter is delivered, the FSD system can also be used here. But remember: you are still the driver and remain responsible for the vehicle. We do this for your safety," Ráž said in the video. The minister's comments closely followed a Reuters report detailing how Tesla lobbied for FSD approval in Europe by framing regulators as barriers to advancing road safety technology. Several European countries, including the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Denmark, have approved the use of the system earlier this year. An EU-wide vote on FSD could take place as early as December. Intel Stock Is Defying the Chip Slump as Musk Explains TSMC Role in AI Project -- Barrons.com

Intel Stock Is Defying the Chip Slump as Musk Explains TSMC Role in AI Project -- Barrons.com

By Callum Keown Much ado about nothing? Intel stock was defying the chip slump ahead of the open Wednesday after CEO Lip-Bu Tan and SpaceX's Elon Musk clarified the company's role in the gigantic Terafab AI chip project. It's good news-or at least better news than it might have been when Musk said on Saturday he was in discussions with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing over collaborating on the Tesla and SpaceX project that Intel joined in April. Tan said Intel will continue working on the project, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, while Musk played down any potential involvement by TSMC. "No, we will build and run the fab. Let there be ZERO doubt about that," he said in a post on X, replying to a suggestion that TSMC could own and run the plant. "Maybe TSMC subleases part of the Terafab if they want, but nothing more than that," he added. While not as bad as perhaps feared, TSMC's involvement still isn't great news for Intel. It seems the market was under the impression Intel would have the project to itself. Intel's shares have fallen 5.7% so far this week but were edging 0.1% higher ahead of the open Wednesday. That's as the broader sector was falling -- the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) pointed 1.7% lower in premarket trading. Advanced Micro Devices and Micron Technology were around 2% down. Intel stock remains up 205% in 2026, through Tuesday's close. Write to Callum Keown at callum.keown@dowjones.com This content was created by Barron's, which is operated by Dow Jones & Co. BUZZ - Reports claim Intel is still involved in Elon Musk's Terafab project, prompting a surge in its stock price

Latest update October 7 - Chipmaker Intel (INTC.O) shares rose 0.84% to $113.45 in premarket trading, attempting a rebound after four consecutive days of decline. Intel (INTC) CEO Pat Gelsinger told Bloomberg (link) the company will continue to advance Elon Musk's Terafab chip manufacturing (link) project. The report was released just days after Musk said TSMC 2330.TW and Terafab had discussed potential collaboration (link). Terafab is Elon Musk’s planned chip manufacturing plant (link), aiming to produce AI chips for Tesla TSLA.O and SpaceX SPCX.O. Last Saturday, Musk said that discussions were still at a preliminary stage and added that there may be results. However, on Wednesday he stated that TSMC (link) would not operate the Terafab AI chip production facility. Intel and Tesla did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment outside regular business hours. As of the close of the previous trading day, Intel (INTC) shares had more than tripled year to date. The stock dropped a total of 6.4% over the last four trading sessions. Meanwhile, shares of other major chipmakers declined, with Nvidia NVDA.O and AMD AMD.O dropping 0.6% and 1.8%, respectively. Musk welcomes German backing for Tesla driver assistance tech as group chases EU approval

German transport minister says he will push for system approval Germany agrees with Tesla for FSD to exceed speed limit by up to 10% Tesla offers to rename system Tesla Assisted Driving, minister says By Marie Mannes and Miranda Murray BERLIN, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Tesla TSLA.O CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday welcomed Germany's backing for the US automaker's driver-assistance software system, as he seeks Europe-wide approval for the technology that traffic-safety researchers have warned carries inflated safety claims. "Danke schoen," wrote Musk on his social media platform X about German Transport Minister Steffen Bilger pushing for approval of the "Full Self-Driving" technology across Europe. Bilger said in a statement on Tuesday that he is advocating for prompt EU approval after discussing numerous technical details, as well as liability issues, with Tesla last month. As part of the discussions, Germany agreed with Tesla that the system may slightly exceed the maximum speed limit by up to 10% – an approach Germany will also support within the European approval process, where speeding has become one of the main points of contention. Safety advocates and some regulators argue Tesla's use of a speed-offset function, which allows the system to drive above the posted limit, should be removed before approval is granted. Bilger added that Tesla has also offered to rename the system "Tesla Assisted Driving" to address concerns that the name is somewhat misleading. The system offers assistance to drivers, but is not fully autonomous. "My goal is for Tesla drivers to be able to enjoy the benefits of 'assisted driving' throughout the EU without delay," said Bilger. TESLA LOBBYING HARD FOR EU APPROVAL Germany is the latest in a handful of European countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium, to throw their support behind the technology. However, several EU countries, including Sweden and France, have expressed concerns about FSD exceeding speed limits, and an EU vote expected for October has been pushed back to at least Decemb

Stocks Futures Steady as Bond Selloff Extends, Oil Prices Rise

By Joe Stonor Nasdaq and S&P 500 futures were little moved in early European trade after the indexes surged to records in the last session, as still-higher Treasury yields and a fresh jump in oil prices failed to knock U.S. stock market exuberance. The "Magnificent Seven"--the mega-cap companies Nvidia, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta and Tesla--continued to strengthen in premarket trade after powering indexes to new records. Gains were limited elsewhere, however, as futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average futures dropped 0.2%. Futures for the S&P 500 were flat, while Nasdaq futures edged 0.1% lower amid weakness for some chip makers. "The breadth of the rally has narrowed," said UBS Wealth Management Chief Investment Officer Mark Haefele. "The increasing concentration of market gains reinforces the importance of managing risk." Brent crude oil prices rose 0.6% to $101.20 a barrel while WTI prices neared $90 after Houthi militants attacked Saudi airports. Conflict in the Arabian peninsula is escalating after Saudi-backed forces launched a counteroffensive to retake territory along the Red Sea. Treasury yields rose in tandem with oil prices. Ten-year yields added 3.6 basis points to 5.307%, while 30-year yields jumped 4.3 basis points to 5.683%. Higher yields and oil prices dragged the market mood in Asia and Europe. The Korean Kospi slipped 2%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.6%. Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 0.9%. In Europe, AI-linked stocks slid as the continent-wide Stoxx 600 fell 0.55%. French government bonds came under renewed pressure as budget talks remain in focus. Ten-year French OAT yield increased 5.4 basis points to 4.806% compared with a 2.2-basis-point rise for 10-year Bund yields. The dollar continued to strengthen as oil prices rose, prompting a fall in bitcoin and gold prices. Bitcoin fell close to $84,100, while New York gold contracts fell 0.7% to $4,159 a troy ounce. For the day ahead, the Federal Reserve will publish minutes from its September policy meeting, adding color to

07:56 AM EDT, 10/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were tracking in the green on Tuesday following gains in the previous session, when the tech-heavy Nasdaq reached a record closing high. The S&P 500 rose 0.2%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.5%, and the Nasdaq 100 added 0.3% in premarket activity. The indexes finished Monday trading strong, with the Nasdaq Composite hitting a new peak. Shares of major companies in the artificial intelligence trade were trending upwards pre-bell, including SpaceX (SPCX), Nvidia (NVDA), Tesla (TSLA), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Qualcomm (QCOM). Microsoft (MSFT), Meta Platforms (META) and Amazon (AMZN) were also up early Tuesday. Treasury yields were down, with the two-year rate retreating 2.1 basis points to 4.81% and the 10-year rate falling 3.4 basis points to 5.28%. The latter reached its highest level since April 2002 on Monday, according to CNBC. The Federal Reserve is scheduled to post minutes from its September policy meeting on Wednesday, which will be assessed for fresh insight into the central bank's monetary policy. At that meeting, the central bank raised interest rates by 25 basis points, its first hike in just over three years, to combat inflation that has run persistently above its 2% target. Markets are currently pricing in a 78% probability that the Fed will keep its benchmark rate steady this month, with the remaining odds in favor of a 25-basis-point hike, according to the CME FedWatch tool. Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman is scheduled to speak at 10:45 am ET. New York Fed President John Williams, Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid and Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan are also slated to speak on Tuesday. Tuesday's thin economic calendar has the international trade in goods and services report for August at 8:30 am.
