Analysts at BMI, a subsidiary of Fitch Solutions, stated that Singapore’s GDP growth is expected to slow in the coming quarters. Higher energy costs may weigh on the economic activity of its major trade partners, and the outlook for non-electronic product exports has already weakened.
If the disruption in Middle East supplies persists beyond BMI’s baseline scenario of mid-to-late June, oil prices may remain elevated, thereby dampening investment and household spending in Singapore.
Nevertheless, BMI has revised Singapore’s 2026 GDP growth forecast up from 3.0% to 4.0%, as stronger-than-expected first quarter economic performance could offset the growth softness for the remainder of this year.
